Step 1 - Download

Download and install the pipe stress analysis software from the link below.

CAEPIPE Contest version 6.5

Two sample model files and another called "Contest.mod" are provided for you in the CAEPIPE program files folder (see C:\CAEPIPE\650-Contest, if you accepted the default installation location).

Step 2 - Familiarize yourself with the Contest model

Once you get CAEPIPE working and you feel familiar with its usage:

  • Open the Contest model results file (use File menu > Open Results > and pick Contest.res).
  • Open the Word document titled "AllowableLoads" from either the Start Menu or from the C:\CAEPIPE\650-Contest directory, also available HERE in .pdf format.
  • Study the document to answer the questions below:

1. Is the model code-compliant?
2. Are the nozzle forces and moments at node 1000 under the allowables (in operating case)?
3. Are the nozzle forces and moments at node 2000 under the allowable (in operating case)?
4. The second largest translational displacement (ignoring sign) in the Operating case occurs at which node?
5. The maximum hanger hot load occurs at which of the following hanger nodes?
6. Briefly, suggest methods to try to reduce the loads at node 2000. Please keep in mind that supports can be added only at locations noted in the Word document.

Step 3 - Submit

Once you feel confident that you have the correct answers, simply go to the following link, fill out the short online form with your contact information, and submit your answers in the appropriate fields. Once you click on the Submit button you will automatically be entered to win a Google Android 2.2 Tablet! Good luck!

Contest winner (if located outside the USA) will be responsible for all customs duties and taxes on the item imposed by your country.
